The
Monterey Peninsula has been home to several renowned
cartoonists. The Airport District sponsored an exhibition
of three very notable ones, Hank Ketcham (Dennis the
Menace), Eldon Dedini (New Yorker) and Gus Arriola (Gordo).
Travel was chosen as the theme, and "Tour de Farce"
the title.
The
concept was to present the cartoonists, through their
work and their imaginations. It had to capture their
irreverence and sense of fun and humor. The design was
conceived as a set design, using enlargements of the
cartoonists characters as the main exhibit elements.
Also very large silhouettes were used as backdrops.
The exhibition panels were cutouts based upon travel
themes, and done in a cartoon style.
