GT was one of the original staff members, to help develop and create the initial phase of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was and remains unique, in that it is an aquarium based on a total habitat system, which is Monterey Bay. Due in great part to the submarine canyon, the range of habitats is very wide. So the content could be integrated into a complete story of marine life. This enabled the staff to create an exhibit interface which is a very understandable and relevant one for the visitors.

Many new exhibit concepts were conceived and created by the design and biological staff. Also the spectacular site was utilized fully in the site and outdoor decks. This completed the "connections" between the exhibits and the real bay outside.
